What is the demolay?
DeMolay is a youth organization founded in 1919, providing leadership development for young men aged 12 to 21 with a complimentary group called the Squires for young men 9 – 11. Inspired by the ideals of Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, DeMolay promotes character development, civic involvement, and personal growth. Members engage in various activities like community service, social events, and leadership training, fostering teamwork, integrity, and responsibility. Through its chapters worldwide, DeMolay offers a supportive network for young men to build lifelong friendships and develop essential life skills while embracing the values of loyalty, honor, and service. It aims to shape the leaders of tomorrow through mentorship and personal growth opportunities.
DeMolay has a close affiliation with Freemasonry. It was founded by Freemason Frank S. Land, who sought to provide a similar experience for young men. DeMolay incorporates elements of Freemasonry into its structure and rituals, emphasizing moral and ethical values. While DeMolay is not a Masonic organization itself, it maintains a strong relationship with Freemasonry, often sponsored by Masonic lodges. Many DeMolay members go on to join Freemasonry after reaching the eligible age. The affiliation between DeMolay and Freemasonry allows for shared principles, mentorship opportunities, and a pathway for young men to continue their personal and leadership development within the Masonic fraternity. The Lynn Skinnner DeMolay chapter meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month at 10 o'clock a.m. The meetings are held at Park Avenue Lodge.
